About

Jason Carter ("Hawk") is the son of a painter's son.

As a young boy, he sat at his father’s and grandfather’s feet and watched as they recreated the coastlines and farmlands of New England. Art broke down walls between them and communicated things they couldn’t say in words.

Upon his unexpected passing, Carter inherited the brushes and knives his father used to create his life’s work. On a whim, he picked them up and put them to canvas for the first time, in an effort to connect with his father and find his way through the grieving process. “It was like he was painting with me," Carter explains. "My hand just knew where to go and what to do.”

Purposefully abstract, Carter’s style allows people to find their own stories through his work. But curious and discerning viewers will find shadows of pastures, water, and night sky—references to his childhood in New England.

His paintings evoke nostalgic memories of simpler times and an unwavering hope for what’s to come.

Hawk continues to paint with his father’s tools to honor the gifts handed down by generations before him and signs each piece with his childhood nickname, “Hawk,” given to him by his father.

His current collection, entitled “Odyssey,” explores the fragile nature of humanity and the transformative journey towards everlasting peace.

Hawk calls Nashville, TN home, where he enjoys a vibrant, creative life with his wife, Jennifer, and their daughter, Stella.
